I’m Colin. Southern Californian by birth and USC Trojan for life. Eater of experiences and drinker of tequila. I’ll do anything for the story of it and sometimes I even write that story down for you, the good people of Earth. I’ve jumped out of an airplane. I’ve been bit by a tiger and stepped on by an elephant. I ate a cricket in Thailand, but my friends don’t agree “for the experience of it” is enough justification for that. I don’t think it was that bad.
I was born in a wee city called San Diego but spent the next 18 years of my life being thrown around the country like a pinball. I don’t remember how many houses and apartments I’ve lived in. To my undeveloped idiot child brain, it kind of sucked. My fully developed genius adult brain knows this to be false. I got out of school for fire days in California almost as much as for snow days anywhere else, and that’s weirdly awesome. Don’t throw your lit cigs out of car windows into dry brush, kids.
I studied creative writing at the University of Southern California with a minor in savage debauchery and now make my money with as many creative jobs as possible. Many of these are within the film industry – I’ve worked at Participant Media, Lionsgate, and ABC/Disney. I’m also a regular contributor to Matador Network, the largest independent travel magazine on the Internet, a contributing editor at Go Overseas, and a featured writer in plenty of other publications. You can check out a more complete portfolio on Contently. I do odd jobs to fill the dead space in between. Almost all of my money inevitably goes to the airlines or the bartender.
I enjoy guacamole (the cricket could have used some), music festivals, and that place in Joshua Tree that looks a bit like a Salvador Dali painting if you look at it the right way.
Partake of the World.
