Over the past few years that I’ve been traveling, I’ve taken terabytes of video. But in that same timeframe, I’ve had my primary DSLR stolen at the Melbourne Train Station (not to be replaced for nearly a year) and my GoPro stolen in Barcelona (yet to be replaced, shit’s expensive yo). In Brisbane, I suffered a catastrophic computer failure. The catastrophe, of course, was the fact that I was too much of an idiot to keep offsite backups, and thus I lost all of my files from Asia. I lost all of my files period. Have you ever tried to rebuild a library of 10,000 music tracks? This is how pirates are born.
I suffered the same sort of computer failure in New Zealand, but by then I was smart enough to keep a hard drive. But the damage was done, and I had lost a lot of my zeal for actually stringing everything together. My friend Lydia will attest to this, having chewed me out for all of this multiple times.
But the industry is moving towards video as its primary medium. I’m an adaptable guy, or I wouldn’t be doing this. So I dug into all those Oceania videos, few and shaky though they may be, and I’ve finally strung something together with them. So behold, the first Elsewhere Man tour video. When the second video comes out, this one will be the worst I’ve ever done. Long may it hold that crown.
